Fritz’s only surviving son is Kevin, his second oldest son. Kevin began his wrestling career after playing football at North Texas State University until an injury ended his dream of playing in the National Football League.

The Von Erichs Family Tragedy

Adkisson is the surname of the family. Every member of the Von Erich family who entered the wrestling business, however, used the Von Erich name. This was done in honor of the family patriarch, Jack (Fritz Von Erich) Adkisson. Fritz lived to be 68 years old, but five of his six sons died before him, three of them by suicide.

Jack Jr., the firstborn son, was electrocuted in a household accident when he was six years old in 1959. David Von Erich died in Japan in 1984 of an unspecified cause, though it is widely assumed he died of a drug overdose.

In 1987, 1991, and 1993, Mike, Chris, and Kerry all committed suicide. Mike died as a result of an overdose of Placidyl, a prescription sleep aid, and alcoholic beverages. Chris shot himself in the head at his parents’ East Texas home with a 9mm handgun. Kerry committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest behind his father’s house.

This leaves Kevin as Fritz Von Erich’s and Doris’s last surviving son. David, Kerry, Mike, and Chris are his wrestling brothers, and he also has an older brother, Jack, who died in 1959.

What Were Kevin Von Erich’s Early Career Goals?

Career

Kevin began wrestling in 1976 and spent the majority of his career competing for World Class Championship Wrestling. He had tremendous success in the ring as a single and tag team wrestler, frequently taking part in some of the industry’s most high-profile feuds, including those with Chris Adams and Ric Flair.

By the late 1970s, Kevin had made a name for himself in Dallas, where he shared his first major victory as a wrestling tag team with his younger brother David, winning the NWA Texas Tag Team Championship twice in 1978.

In the early 1980s, Kevin and David had a feud with the Fabulous Freebirds that is widely regarded as one of the most memorable in wrestling history. Kevin was devastated when David Von Erich died in Japan from acute enteritis.

Kevin didn’t compete much between 1989 and 1990, becoming disheartened by his father’s decision to sell the WCCW to Jerry Jarrett. Despite this, Kevin did assist a young Steve Austin in the ring at the time, and he remains a friend to this day.

Kevin Von Erich made his World Wrestling Federation debut in a dark match against Brian Lee in 1991. While he defeated Greg Valentine to win the North American Heavyweight title, he lost it a week later to John Hawk and began reducing his performances before formally retiring in 1995.
