Johnny Depp Scandal
The custody battle between Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard has revealed many heinous secrets in court. Johnny has filed a defamation suit against Amber, and the case is currently being heard in court. So far in this case, both parties have leveled numerous allegations against each other. In this episode of allegations, forensic psychologist Dr. Don Hughes, who is now representing Amber, has made a significant statement against Johnny.
Dr. Hughes testified in court, saying, ‘When Mr. Depp was drunk or high on drugs, he would slam Amber on the bed, tear off her nightgown, and forcefully try to have sex with her.’ When Johnny was angry, he would force Amber to have oral sex. All of this did not happen during a loving moment. These were his angry moments. Mr. Depp wanted to control Amber at that moment of dominance.
Johnny has objected to an article written by Amber in 2018 in the defamation case. Johnny Depp claims in The Washington Post that Amber has said many derogatory and incorrect things about him. Amber describes himself as a survivor of physical and mental abuse in the post.
Lawsuits for Defamation
When their divorce was finalized, Amber Heard received a $7 million settlement from Depp. Amber then promised to donate the settlement money to charity, specifically the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union.
In January 2021, Johnny claimed that Amber lied about donating the money to charity. Depp’s lawyers allegedly contacted the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the ACLU to inquire about the amount of money Heard had given them.
According to the Daily Mail, the ACLU refused to turn over the figures, but the Children’s Hospital was only given $100,000, which is approximately $3.4 million less than her allegedly promised donation. The hospital allegedly contacted Heard to inquire “if the pledge will not be fulfilled.”
Johnny Depp sued News Group Newspapers in the United Kingdom in 2018 after The Sun referred to him as a “wife beater” in an April 2018 article. The lawsuit was scheduled to go to trial in 2020. Heard and Depp both testified for several days. A judge ruled in November 2020 that 12 of the 14 incidents of violence Heard allegedly claimed to have experienced were “substantially true.” In March 2021, Depp lost an appeal.
Johnny sued Amber Heard in Virginia for defamation in 2019. He sought a $50 million settlement in response to Amber Heard’s December 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post detailing the alleged abuse she suffered. Despite the fact that Heard never mentioned Depp by name, he felt she was heavily implying that he was to blame for various acts of violence, despite the couple’s earlier joint statements stating that “there was never any intent of physical or emotional harm” from either partner.
Furthermore, Depp claimed that he was a victim of domestic abuse as a result of Heard’s behavior, which included punching, kicking, throwing objects, and even defecation. Heard’s attempts to have the case dismissed were denied after Depp’s legal team published evidence of his allegations.
Heard filed a counter-suit in August 2020. On April 11, 2022, the trial for this defamation case began in Fairfax County, Virginia.
Johnny was awarded $15 million in defamation damages by a Virginia jury on June 1, 2022. With Virginia’s punitive damages cap, that was quickly reduced to $10.35 million. Simultaneously, the jury awarded Amber $2 million in damages. These damages can be challenged.
