Growing up
George Lucas was born in Modesto, California, on May 14, 1944. Lucas was a car racing fanatic as a child. This interest in automobiles and motor racing led to the production of films such as American Graffiti and 1:42.08. George Lucas spent most of his time growing up near garages and racing at underground circuits.
When he was 18, an accident with his racing car could have killed him. Another driver ended up flipping his car over, causing significant damage. Despite the fact that Lucas escaped unharmed, his interest in car racing began to wane.
Later, when Lucas began college, he developed an interest in films. Canyon cinema was all the rage at the time, and George spent most of his time watching and studying classic European films from that era.
George then went on to study professional filmmaking at university. He worked with a group of people who all had a strong interest in art. It was here that he met Steven Spielberg, who went on to collaborate on the Indiana Jones franchise.
It was at this point that he discovered the other important factors that influence the overall outcome of any film, such as lighting, positioning, and the vibrant energy evident in motion pictures. George Lucas put his education to good use and went on to become the successful filmmaker he is now known for.
Personal Existence
From 1969 to 1983, Lucas was married to film editor Marcia Lou Griffin, who won an Academy Award for her work on the original Star Wars. In 1981, they adopted a daughter, Amanda Lucas. As a single parent, Lucas adopted two more children, Katie Lucas (born 1988) and Jett Lucas (b. 1993).
His three children appeared in all three prequel films to Star Wars. In the 1980s, Lucas was also linked to singer Linda Ronstadt. After dating for seven years, Lucas married Mellody Hobson (chairwoman of DreamWorks Animation) in 2013. They exchanged vows at Lucas’ Skywaker Ranch. They have one daughter, who was born through surrogacy in 2013.

Career
Until 1967, George Lucas dedicated his time to studying and comprehending the mechanics of filmmaking. Following this, he went on to direct Electronic Labyrinth: THX 1138 4EB, which won first place at the National Student Film Festival. This became his first feature film, which was renamed THX 1138.
His next film, Finian’s Rainbow, was funded by a Warner Bros. scholarship, which allowed him to break into Hollywood. George founded his own film production company, ‘Lucasfilms,’ in 1973, and went on to direct the box office success, American Graffiti.
During this decade, George Lucas’s next work was the legendary Star Wars film. An original space adventure story with all the drama and action made it ideal for action fans. As expected, his film broke the Box Office record, which was only broken five years later by Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.
George Lucas later shifted his focus from filmmaking to brand marketing. To compensate for his losses during this time, he went on to create merchandise such as toys and games. Although he wasn’t actively directing films at the time, he was writing and producing them. During this time, Star Wars was created, with numerous spin-offs to appeal to TV audiences in addition to the film.
Currently, Lucas intends to focus on small-budget feature projects rather than full-fledged blockbuster feature films. He also plans to take over the back set and “slowly pull himself away from the filmmaking business.”
