Career

Norman debuted professionally in 1976. He won his first tournament the following year, at the West Lakes Classic in Adelaide. The following year, he made his first appearance on the European tour, winning the Martini International in Scotland. By 1980, Norman was dominating the French Open and other European tournaments.

Norman made his Masters’s debut in 1981, finishing in fourth place in Augusta. He then won the British Masters, and after a string of other victories, Norman became the European Tour’s leading money winner before joining the PGA Tour in the United States.

By 1984, Norman had gained international acclaim after sinking a stunning 45-foot putt at the US Open. Norman rose to prominence in 1986 with the “Saturday Slam,” also known as the “Norman Slam.” Norman led all four majors through 54 holes this year. Throughout the year, Norman was recognized for his outstanding play by the golfing community.

Norman’s career was marred by a few disappointments over the next few years, but he rebounded in 1993 with the assistance of coach Burch Harmon. He won major tournaments for the remainder of his career before taking a three-year break. He became the oldest 54-hole leader in a major championship when he returned in 2008. This was essentially Norman’s final major contribution to the golfing world, as injuries continued to hinder him. In addition, Greg Norman was already focusing on entrepreneurial endeavors at the time.

Greg Norman Enterprises

In 1993, Norman established the Greg Norman Company. The company had expanded into dozens of industries over the years, generating tens of millions of dollars in revenue each year. The company designs golf courses, wineries, real estate, private equity, eyewear, clothing, food, and restaurants, among other things. He paid $1.9 million for a 12% stake in Cobra Golf, a leading golf equipment manufacturer, in 1991. Five years later, the entire company was purchased, earning Norman a $40 million profit.

Property Management

Greg Norman has made significant real estate investments over the years. A ranch in Colorado with 11,600 acres is particularly noteworthy. The property, known as Seven Lakes Ranch, has a 14,000-square-foot main lodge, fitness center, and spa. There are also advanced equestrian facilities, guest cabins, and a staff housing area. He built the ranch by purchasing three adjacent land parcels and connecting them into one. His first purchase was for $9.5 million in 2004.

After heavily investing in the development of Seven Lakes Ranch, he listed it for sale in 2017 for $55 million. Unfortunately, he was unable to find a buyer, forcing him to reduce the price to $50 million a year later. He listed the property for sale for $40 million in March 2020. He eventually found a buyer for an undisclosed sum in early 2021. Here’s a video walkthrough:

Greg Norman paid $4.9 million for a mansion in Jupiter, Florida in 1991. Years later, he attempted to capitalize on rising property values by listing the mansion for $65 million. Norman failed to find a buyer for the second time in two years.

In 2018, he demolished the historic mansion on the property (a 1902 cottage) and built a new family compound called “Tranquility.”

The home, which is expected to be finished in the summer of 2020, has 32,000 square feet of living space spread across a main house, guest house, carriage house, pool house, and boat house. The main house’s basement has a 5,000-square-foot entertainment area with two wine cellars, a game room, and a movie theater. The property includes a tennis court and dockage for a 150-foot yacht.

Greg and his wife Kiki listed the estate for $59.9 million in January 2021. They eventually found a buyer for a reported $40 million.
