Rema’s Bio

Rema – Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, is a Nigerian singer and rapper born on May 1, 2000. In 2019, he signed a record deal with Mavin Records subsidiary Jonzing World. He rose to prominence after releasing the song “Iron Man,” which was included on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist. Rema was born in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria to a highly spiritual Christian family. Rema began singing and rapping in high school. In Edo State, he went to primary and secondary school.

Rema went viral in 2018 with a freestyle to D’Prince’s “Gucci Gang.” D’Prince was drawn to the post and flew him to Lagos to offer him a record deal. Rema signed a record deal with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, in 2019 and immediately began recording. In 2019, he released his self-titled debut EP, Rema. For months, it was number one on Apple Music Nigeria.

Rema family

Rema had been with MAVIN for about 18 months prior to signing. Prior to that 18-month period, Rema was a teenager who had recently lost his father and older brother and was under pressure to raise money for his mother.

At the age of 17, he went to work on a beach in Ghana and bought his mother a car. Soon after, he did a freestyle to D’Prince’s ‘Gucci Gang,’ which put him on MAVIN/radar. Jonzing’s Things haven’t been the same since.
