Career

Roddick played competitive tennis throughout his childhood and adolescence, but he considered retiring at the age of 17 after a losing streak in the juniors. Tarik Benhabiles, his coach, persuaded him to give tennis another shot for four months. He finished as the number six junior in the United States in 1999 and the number one junior player in the world in 2000. Roddick won the US Open and Australian Open junior singles titles as a junior, as well as six world junior singles titles and seven world junior doubles titles.
