The Crankiest Musicians of All Time, 2022 Updates
Being a musician can be extremely stressful and difficult for anyone. You have a demanding schedule that includes touring, creating, and recording. Musicians must sometimes promote themselves. This can be exhausting for anyone, so it’s a pleasant surprise when celebrities take time out of their day to be nice to fans. They spend a significant portion of their day signing autographs, hugging people, and taking photos, but they always do so with a smile on their face. At least some of them do.
Some musicians are known to be grumpy. Not only to their fans, but to everyone in their vicinity. Being nice to fans is the norm, but some musicians don’t care what they should do. Instead, they’re snobbish and, at times, downright mean to those who support their career. They can also be rude to interviewers and generally make themselves look bad on television — you know who we’re talking about.
We decided that there are so many grumpy celebrities that we needed a list. Here are 39 musicians who need a juice box and a nap to get over their meltdowns. Do you agree with our list, or did we leave someone out?
Kanye West
Kanye West is well-known for his grumpiness. For the fans, he’s had problems during a concert where he wanted the audience to do something, and when they didn’t, he stormed off.
On top of that, he frequently has interviews go wrong. When something irritates him, he may yell at the interviewer, stare angrily, or storm off the set without warning.
Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey is well-known for her snobbish demeanor. When asked if she knows a famous person, she shakes her head and says, “I don’t know them.” Not to mention her 2018 New Year’s Eve performance, during which her equipment failed and she couldn’t hear a thing.
That doesn’t change the fact that she threw a full-fledged tantrum on stage.
Ringo Starr
It’s difficult to believe that any member of the Beatles could be grumpy, but Ringo Starr is known for his serious demeanor. In fact, one fan shared a story about meeting their favorite musician as a child. When he first met Starr, he laughed and said, “No.” Then he told them to leave…with even more expletives.
According to other fans, this is a common occurrence for anyone who meets up with Starr. If you’re a fan of the Beatles, you’ll be pleased to know that the other members are incredibly nice, and Julian Lennon is still as nice as ever—figures.
Axl Rose
In his younger years, Axl Rose was known for being wild and unkind. He’s calmed down a little, but he’s still pretty grumpy. Because of his anger issues, he frequently throws objects and insults anyone who irritates him.
He used to tell his fans to leave him alone (with more expletives), but now he takes photos. That’s why he’s on this list as cranky rather than just plain mean.
Celine Dion
Several of Dion’s demands can be traced back to her manager/husband Rene Angelil, who only wanted the best for his wife. Her entire entourage must be catered to, and all rooms must be 73 degrees Fahrenheit.
Dion, a perfectionist, demands strict adherence to her guidelines and has taken over as her “own boss” since her husband’s death.
Tommy Lee
Tommy Lee, Mötley Crüe’s drummer, has never claimed to be a nice person, but he can be a jerk at times. He refuses to pose for photos with fans, which is fine, but he doesn’t have to lash out at those who do.
Several fan stories describe how he curses them out and claims that he owes them nothing. Perhaps he’s had too many bad experiences, but there’s no reason to start something when there’s nothing there to begin with.
Sebastian Bach
Sebastian Bach is Skid Row’s lead singer, but things aren’t going well in his world. He has a reputation for being grumpy and, in some cases, violent. For example, while in his hometown, the band went to a bar to hang out–not to play, but simply to enjoy the evening.
The bar already had a band playing, but Bach wanted to be a part of it. Naturally, they wouldn’t let him, and he began to cry. Before throwing Bach out, a security guard attempted to remove him and was bitten.
Kid Rock
He instigates public fights on a regular basis, including one at the MTV Video Music Awards in which he punched Tommy Lee.
Lily Allen
Lily Allen is delightfully crass, but she occasionally crosses the line. While she is charming at times, she frequently writes songs about people in her life, including ex-boyfriends and her brother. Her brother, Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones’ Theon Greyjoy), has a song about him, Alfie, in which Lily complains about what a loser he is.
To make matters worse, Lily Allen has a history of feuding with other celebrities, including the late Amy Winehouse and Kylie Minogue. She even yelled obscenities at Elton John at the GQ Awards in 2008.
Prince
The late Prince was a musical genius, but he was also rumored to be extremely rude. One of the worst stories is when he stole a 1961 Epiphone Crestwood guitar from the Roots and smashed it up on stage. Even though he paid for it, the fact that he smashed up someone else’s instruments doesn’t change the fact that he did so.
Kevin Smith has plenty of stories that perfectly describe Prince’s entitlement, including one in which he requested a camel in Minnesota at 3 a.m. and couldn’t understand why he couldn’t get it.
Courtney Love
There’s no denying Courtney Love has had a difficult life, especially given her relationship with Kurt Cobain. She was, however, a little cranky and off-the-wall before she met Kurt. She was arrested for shoplifting when she was 14 and placed in foster care until she was 16.
She only got worse after the drugs and trauma, and she’s known for being a thorn in the side of celebrities. Love interrupts interviews, directs her rage at other female performers, and her own daughter has a restraining order against her.
Van Halen
Van Halen’s legendary list was created to see if promoters were paying attention to their demands or if they would lose the profits from each show. So, aside from the M&M’s (no brown ones), their rider appeared to be fairly normal…
The band asked for nuts, pretzels, one large tube of Kentucky jelly, three packs of Marlboro cigarettes, Herring in sour cream, two gallons of non-carbonated, bottled spring water, three-fifths Jack Daniels Black Label bourbon, two-fifths Stolichnaya vodka, one pint Southern Comfort, and two bottles Blue Nun white wine.
Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber is the grumpiest little toddler in the bunch. He’s a jerk for a variety of reasons, including forcing his bodyguards to carry him up the Great Wall of China, calling a fan a “beached whale,” spitting on fans, egging his neighbor’s house, driving while intoxicated, and more.
Overall, he’s just a baby who has been having tantrums for years. Since marrying Hailey Baldwin in 2018, he’s cleaned up his act, but he’s still young—and leopards don’t change their spots.
Noel Gallagher
Noel Gallagher is a co-founder of Oasis, the band that performed “Wonderwall.” Noel, on the other hand, has a fiery temper that he’s not afraid to flaunt; in fact, it’s one of the reasons he and his brother battled for so long
Noel, in particular, is known for flinging furniture around. He’s even been known to hurl chairs at his younger brother, Liam.
Liam Gallagher
Oasis’ other co-founder, Liam Gallagher, is not without flaws. Noel threw a chair at Liam because he changed the lyrics of a song to insult Americans – for some reason, Liam despises Americans.
He’s also been known to skip a tour in order to go shopping.
Thom Yorke
Thom Yorke is the type of person you know will be grumpy the moment you meet him. He frequently curses fans, mostly for requesting one of their most well-known songs, “Creep.”
Fans who run into him on the street, on the other hand, do not have a better time. He’s a reserved individual who despises being approached by strangers. People who meet him describe him as “a jerk.”
Matt Good
Matt Good may not be as well-known as he was in the 1990s, and this could be due to his attitude. He’s well-known for his difficult demeanor, and he’s even sold merchandise with the words “I hear Matt Good is a real (expletive)” on the front.
At the very least, he’s not afraid to admit he’s grumpy. Someone hurry up and get this man a juice box!
Morrissey
Morrissey isn’t the nicest person on the planet. He’s walked off stage during a concert a few times. Because he is a vegan, he walked off stage during a performance when he smelled BBQ, saying, “I hope it’s human.”
Furthermore, he defended Kevin Spacey, claiming that he was “unnecessarily attacked” after being accused of sexual harassment and pedophilia. He also defended Harvey Weinstein’s actions, which place him among the list’s worst musicians.
Gene Simmons
The KISS frontman constantly seeks publicity, both on and off stage, through his outlandish statements and beliefs.
He’s a notorious womanizer and misogynist who claims to have slept with nearly 5,000 women over the course of his career. Nonetheless, he dismisses female pop artists and completely dismisses rap musicians. Everyone is made uncomfortable by Simmons’ sneering demeanor.
John McCrea
Cake’s lead singer is John McCrea. McCrea is an introvert by nature, which is difficult for any famous band, but he takes it too far. When they don’t play, the band is known for insulting the people who paid to see them by refusing to play.
That’s right–if McCrea says “sing along,” you better sing along or he’ll walk off stage. He also insults entire countries while performing in those countries, which has led to crowds throwing water bottles at him while he is on stage.
Jason Aldean
It’s difficult to live life like a country music song’s refrain, but Jason Aldean manages just fine. His tarnished reputation stems from his scandalous affair and abandonment of his family.
Aside from dressing up in blackface and then claiming to be racially sensitive, Aldean carries the domineering husband into his second marriage, publicly demeaning his wife. However, following the 2017 Las Vegas shooting that nearly killed him, the hardworking everyman took stock of his life.
Madonna
Madge has matured over the last 40 years, but don’t forget that the Material World singer subscribed to that philosophy. Madonna knows how to be a leading diva, whether she’s requesting 30 bodyguards, a chef, a physiotherapist, or that all furniture in her dressing room be removed and replaced with her own pieces shipped in.
It’s also worth noting that she’s not exactly fan-friendly, and has been known to keep paying audiences waiting for hours for a concert. Any junket would struggle to handle a 200-person entourage.
Chris Brown
Chris Brown has an anger problem, and no one – not even Chris Brown – can deny it. Domestically abusing Rihanna in 2009 is a prime example, but it’s far from the only one.
He also punched Frank Ocean, yelled homophobic epithets at him, and threatened to shoot him. Brown was also involved in a serious bar brawl with Drake, which resulted in several people being injured.
Grace Jones
Grace Jones has a long history of being aggressive and violent. She attacked Russell Harty on a television talk show in 1981 because he was talking to another guest. She slapped him several times on air in response.
That’s not the first time she’s started a fight. It became a regular occurrence both on and off-air.
John Mayer
John Mayer is a musician that many people despise, but he is not without fault due to his attitude. While he possesses talent, he appears to be devoid of a conscience. First, he almost admitted to being racist in interviews by casually using racial slurs.
In interviews, he also brags about his dating “conquests,” which is a bad thing for anyone to do. Look up what he said after they dated a million years ago about Jessica Simpson!
Ted Nugent
For his runny nose, the Motor City Madman once requested “man sized Kleenex.” On tour, he also enjoys peanut butter, tuna, and tropical Slim Fast. His strange 1978 relationship with a 17-year-old girl who wasn’t old enough to marry is cause for concern—he “adopted her with her parental consent” rather than “living in sin.”
But, whether it’s about guns, mixed-race heritage, or school shootings, his outspoken conservative political stance, to the point of name-calling, has irritated some fans throughout his career.
Christina Aguilera
Xtina once needed strange food while traveling: Nesquik, vegan cheese, Oreos, and flintstone vitamins. Her over-the-top demands on The Voice, however, have resulted in taping delays and well-documented feuds with other female singers, making her a liability.
It was too much drama for Aguilera’s career in the early 2000s, whether it was trying to physically and verbally fight P!NK, Mariah Carey, or Britney.
The Crankiest Musicians of All Time, 2022 Updates
Pete Wentz
Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz is a member of the band. While he isn’t a complete jerk, he does have his moments, which is why he’s only listed as “cranky.” According to one fan, Wentz grabbed her friend’s phone and smashed it, telling her that he was going to smash her face next. Yikes.
Another story went on to describe Pete getting drunk and pouring beer on fans who approached him.
Chad Kroeger
Kroeger unquestionably deserves a d-bag award. Mostly because he thinks he’s a musical genius, but we’re labeling him cranky and rude because of his remarks about other musicians. In an interview, he claimed Stone Sour was attempting to sound like Nickelback, claiming Nickelback’s songs were diverse.
He then went on to compare himself to Queen. All we can say is that you could play the entire Nickelback album and it would sound like one long song.
Ryan Adams
During a concert in 2002, someone asked for “Summer of 69,” mistaking Ryan for Bryan. Ryan Adams gave the man $30 for his ticket and threw him out, refusing to play until he left.
Adams’ career has been derailed by his controversial misconduct charges of offering to help women with their music careers in exchange for relationships, including one with his ex-wife.
John Lydon
Johnny Rotten (his stage name) has been many things, but he has never been subtle. The Sex Pistols’ screeching punk pioneer delights in wreaking havoc with words and actions. Rotten, who was born in the United Kingdom but gained US citizenship in 2015, enjoys hurling insults from the comfort of Malibu.
Rotten’s main claim to fame remains his bad boy behavior that clashes with the establishment—almost comically. Perhaps it was amusing to burp, fart, and spit as the leader of a punk band, but the persona is tiring on an elderly man.
Katy Perry
Katy Perry is well-known for her frequent feuds with other celebrities, including Taylor Swift and the other American Idol judges. Stars fight, which is fine, but what puts her on this list is her belief that she is superior to everyone else, including American Troops…
One Reddit user described how she went to a “support the troops” rally but refused to shake hands or be polite to anyone there. Other Marines have similar stories to this one, so it’s not a one-off.
Deadmau5
Joel Zimmerman, aka deadmau5, is a well-known electronic dance music (EDM) DJ. Despite large sums of money donated to charities, he is known to be extremely rude in person.
He’s never been afraid to openly mock his contemporaries, including Diplo, Skrillex, and Jack Ü. He’s accepted his title and is running with it by this point.
50 Cent
Curtis Jackson had a difficult start, but he recovered to become one of the most well-known rappers of all time. However, in May 2016, he harassed and insulted a janitor at the Cincinnati airport.
He accused him of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The teen janitor was deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafening
Phil Spector
Phil Spector, as a superstar producer and creator of the infamous Wall of Sound, enriched the lives of hundreds of artists. His ego and megalomaniacal persona, on the other hand, made artists fear him and the power he wielded over their careers. While his hustle and production excellence were unrivaled, his dark and turbulent behavior emerged.
After years of Spector brandishing firearms for show, Lana Clarkson’s murder sent the renowned producer to court, where six women testified that he held them at gunpoint rather than letting them leave.
Mike Love
Mike Love, who has been compared to his musical cousin Brian Wilson as being Grinch-like, has admitted to having a bad reputation. Rumors of the Beach Boy beating his wife, fistfights with other band members, and vengeance swirl around him.
As the band’s lead vocalist, Love was always in the spotlight, but he was rarely given credit for the songs he wrote. However, he is the primary villain responsible for Brian Wilson’s removal from the Beach Boys’ tour lineup in 2012.
David Crosby
Crosby, a self-described “difficult cat,” experimented with drugs and alcohol until his health forced him to stop. During his time with The Byrds, which later became Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Crosby fought tooth and nail with his bandmates, causing tension with Neil Young by referring to his girlfriend at the time, Daryl Hannah, as a “poisonous predator.”
His self-absorption, rudeness, and grumpy demeanor caused schisms in the bands, which eventually led to their dissolution.
Nicki Minaj
Backstage, her demands are legendary: full tea sets, two dozen pink or white roses, and three large, scented candles. Her food requirements are insane: egg whites, hard-fried turkey bacon, 12-piece buckets of chicken, salad with Wishbone Light Italian Dressing.
It’s part of Minaj’s on-stage persona, she says, to be that strong, confident woman. In interviews, she has been known to be difficult with journalists, telling them that their questions are off-topic or being rude in general.
Charlie Rich
During the 1975 Country Music Awards, Charlie Rich was tasked with announcing the Entertainer of the Year. And when it came to announcing John Denver’s name (literally one of the nicest guys in the country…)…
Because Denver was a crossover artist, Rich actually burned the envelope. He was then barred from participating in future award shows.
DMX is a tough rapper, so having a tough persona makes sense, but maybe it’s more than just a front… He’s basically the king of grumpiness. He’s been arrested for a variety of offenses, including drug possession, criminal impersonation, reckless driving, and violating his parole.
It’s gotten to the point where he’s more well-known for his criminal record than for his music. to know DMX Net worth 2022 (click here)
